Mindfulness Meditation

WHEN: Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 10 am to 5pm

WHAT: This day of unique, dedicated retreat is an opportunity to pause and explore our inner worlds at the time of year when nature’s light and darkness are present in equal measure. We’ll enjoy meditation and creative rituals designed to help us cultivate balance and harmony between our persona (the conscious, adaptive personality, or “mask”) and our shadow (the unconscious, hidden self). The day’s schedule will include: guided meditation; dharma talks that draw from traditional wisdom and contemporary neuroscience; practices that honor the land and nature; collage and mask making; an optional mindful eating lunch break; Q&A; and time for discussion.

WHY: Mindfulness meditation practices give us a way to explore all parts of self with courage, patience, and compassion. In the still point we can hear our untapped stories and hidden parts of self whispering in the quiet, calling out for love and belonging. And as we listen attentively, the habits of shame, judgment and fear fall away revealing liberated creative expression, joy, and a renewed sense of purpose.

WHO: Beginners, Experienced Meditators, Activists, Artists, Teachers, Introverts, Joiners, Leaders, Lovers, Haters, Cynics, Poets, Pioneers, Party Poopers, and Punks. Trauma-informed, Justice-oriented, queer-friendly and locally grown. Participation is limited to 12 attendees.

HOW: Email dogtownmeditates@gmail.com about participation or to make inquiries.

Past Courses: Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation with Caroline Harvey at Dogtown Books, June 2024.

Invitation to Introduction Course, June 2024….Welcome, friends. Over four glorious Monday evenings this June 2024, you’re invited to participate in a special Mindfulness Meditation Course led by Caroline Harvey. All curious folks are invited, it’s free, and it’s gonna be extraordinary. (And while June is Pride Month and we will definitely be rocking a few more rainbow patches than usual, queers & allies are equally encouraged to attend.) Your participation in this part-punk/part-holy/full-hearted experiment will be instrumental in helping Caroline complete their required teaching practicum as part of a two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program in the lineage of Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, with mentorship from La Sarmiento. Not sure you want to sit still? Not sure your brain can relax? Worried you have to be a certain kind of person to meditate? No problem, my dear ones. Bring all of your every everything and we’ll figure it out together. There’s truly no wrong way to invite mindfulness into our lives and the benefits of meditation are boundless, no matter who we are. Whether we are mindfulness meditators practicing for the first or for the 10,000th time, we are just moving along together with as much grace as we can muster toward more self-acceptance, less shame, deeper love, and a more easeful relationship with the gorgeous, baffling, complicated experience of being alive. Read on for the details, and email Caroline at dogtownmeditates@gmail.com to ask questions or confirm your attendance.
